Understanding Termites

WHAT IS TERMITES?

Termites are an Order of Insect that have existed for millions of Years. Termites although commonly called “White Ants” are more closely related to cockroaches and are not related to Ants. Both termites and cockroaches have been among the longest surviving animals in the world and, obviously, can and will adapt to changing environments. Termites, like Ants are social insects and live in Colonies.

Termites can consume dried, rotting or living trees. Insurance Companies do not provide insurance against termite infestation, because of the frequency, cost and “presently unreliable” termite control available. The cost of maintaining the protection of a building against Termite attack on an annual basis is equivalent to the cost of insuring the building against all other damage that may occur, other than theft.

TERMITE COLONIES

WORKER

Life expectancy is 4- 5 years

SOLDIER

Life expectancy is 4- 5 years

ALATES

Life expectancy is 4- 5 years

KING

QUEEN

Life expectancy is 4- 5 years

NEOTEINIC REPRODUCTIVES

Life expectancy is 4- 5 years

WHAT TERMITES WILL AND CAN DO?

They need moisture to survive and will die if exposed to sunlight or open air. Their tunnels protect them from the elements. Workers have thin cuticles and are the most numerous caste of the colony. Because of their thin cuticles, workers, soldiers and the queen are very susceptible to desiccation (death by excessive loss of moisture). So the humidity of the nest is maintained at 90 to 95 percent. To protect them against light, desiccation and predators, when termites are forced to cross a structure they build Termite Mud Tubes or Galleries.

HOW DO TERMITES ENTER INTO BUILDINGS?

Nearly all termite damage of buildings is caused by Subterranean Termites. Termites, even though blind, will find their way into the buildings without being detected and they will find the cellulose in timbers. Even if they have to go through PVC, Aluminium, Lead or Copper. Typically, 80% of termite attacks originate from termites gaining entry at the perimeter of the building, at the first course of brick or joint. Other entry points include pipe penetrations and other joints. The Termimesh System has been developed to protect all these entry points by a patented, no chemicals, no poison, dedicated engineered physical barrier that will last the life of the building.

The trust of our repeated customer is our success.

We have successfully completed a great number of building types in the last 20 years.

SOME FACTS

TERMIMESH Termite
Control Barrier

Termimesh is a unique physical termite barrier using a simple concept of woven stainless steel mesh to stop termites entering buildings through concealed entry points. Did you know that in Singapore and the rest of Asia, termites cause more damage to homes than fires, floods and storms combined? More and more building owners and consultants are selecting a termite barrier system which not only provides ongoing termite protection for the buildings but require little maintenance and could save money in both the short and long term. The Termimesh Termite Control System is a No Poison, No Chemicals, Totally Engineered Stainless Steel Mesh Physical Barrier System that is Safe, Durable, Sustainable and is Zero Impact on the Environment. HOW CAN TERMITES DAMAGE PROPERTY?

The average termite (worker/soldier) has a life span of up to four years. A termite’s favourite substance is cellulose, which can be found in most wood and paper products. Cellulose can be obtained through sources other than wood, such as grass and debris. Termites can also attack carpet, plastic, soft metals, including copper, lead, aluminium and electrical cabling.

WHY DO YOU NEED TERMITE PROTECTION?

You cannot insure your property against termite damage as you can against other natural threats and yet the huge amount of damage annually gets little or no publicity. $2.0 billion is spent annually in the United States to repair damage caused by termites. Termite damage, in most cases, may not be visible for at least 12 to 18 months beyond the initial infestation.

HOW TO PREVENT FROM TERMITE DAMAGE?

Termite damage often goes unnoticed until it is quite extensive. The warmth given out by electrical fittings also attracts termites and their activity can cause electrical failures and fires. If termites are present and searching for food, any tiny hole will allow them in. Termites can get into the property through a hole as small as 1.4mm.
